An equine photographer doing business in both the "horse-country" of Bucks County, Pennsylvania and in and around Lancaster, Pennsylvania, Stephen "Steve" Crowers captures the power and grace that exemplifies the modern sport horse. Based in the heart of the Mid-Atlantic region, Steve has had opportunities to shoot disciples from Hunter-Jumpers to Eventing, sports from Polo to Gymkhana, and spanning the traditional imagery of Fox Hunting to the flash of Western showmanship.
"There’s an Arabian Proverb that I’ve heard quoted: ‘The wind of heaven is that which blows between a horse’s ears.’ I like to think that I’m capturing a little bit of that in my images."
Growing up in the Miami-Fort Lauderdale area of South Florida, Steve was surrounded by animals throughout his childhood. There was always a stray cat, dog, or other pet being taken into the household - enough that Steve originally toyed with the idea of studying veterinary medicine (alas his competing interest of technology won out as he wasn't sure he'd ever be able to handle putting down a sick animal).
After moving to the Philadelphia region in 1997 (oddly enough, the area both of his parents were born in), it was probably fate that he would end up meeting a local dressage rider and finding a deep connection to the horse world. Over a number of years, Steve pursued understanding and capturing correctness of form while still capturing the joy that flows from people when they are riding.
"I understand the drive that many equestrians have for perfection – both in their riding and in allowing the natural grace of movement that every horse has at birth to shine through – and I attempt to portray that grace and perfection in my images, along with capturing the emotion bond between partners."
Steve is available for show/event photography in and around the Mid-Atlantic region, as well as for commercial work and personalized portraits of you and your horse. Call or email for more information and to book your portrait session.
