I’ve always been interested in photography almost as long as I can remember. I remember developing pictures in the dim red light of the darkroom back at the boys club when I was about 9 years old. I can still smell the chemicals. It really was magic to see the black and white image appear in the tray. In the later days of my wayward teenage years, I got a job in a warehouse and disliked it very much. I still enjoyed photography as a hobby taking mostly landscapes and nudes at this time (kidding about the nudes). After a few accidents with a forklift and the company van, I got a part time job holding lights for a studio on weekends. Within less than a year, the warehouse and I agreeably parted ways and I went full time as a professional photographer. John Kellar Photography was established in June of 1990, with much encouragement from my girlfriend (now wife). I’ve been photographing weddings, portraits, corporate photos, nearly every day since then. The rules of the art haven’t changed much if at all, but the new digital tools and toys make all the more exciting today than it was some 20+ years ago.
