I’m a photographer, mom, wife, snowboarder, surfer, roller coaster enthusiast, teacher, former mechanical engineer, attention-deficit-oh-squirrel, creative, fun, addicted-to-wearing-beanies kid trapped inside an adult’s body.
I don’t remember when I got my first camera, since I’ve been snapping pictures for most of my life. I used to “borrow” my parents’ Minolta 35mm, until they got sick of me using up all their film on pictures of birds, flowers, and other randomness, and bought me my very own Kodak 110mm (with a flash!). Then I went through various Polaroid models, disposables, and eventually bought my very first Canon EOS 35mm film camera. That’s when my love affair with Canon began! I have continued to upgrade and add to my quiver since then, acquiring (and destroying) a number of point-and-shoots and DSLRs. I currently shoot with two Canon 5D Mark IIIs.
My husband refers to my camera as my binky. When I am taking pictures, I am transported to a special “happy place” that I am only able to access through my photography. Photography brings out my most creative side, while somehow calming and exciting me at the same time. I never leave home without some sort of a camera. I never know when I’ll happen upon that perfect sunrise, spot the random bald eagle, or find myself in the vicinity of a surprise marriage proposal.
I’ve lived in Pennsylvania, California, and Japan; I’ve traveled across the US, and to Japan, South Korea, Mexico, Canada, and New Zealand. I’ve snapped amazing pictures in all of these places, capturing images and freezing memories for a lifetime. What I’ve found, though, is that nothing gives me more joy than using my talent and “eye” to capture precious moments for others.
