Born and raised in Greenfield, Massachusetts, Brian grew up exploring and enjoying the every-changing New England outdoors. After obtaining a Bachelor of Science degree in Marine Biology from Southeastern Massachusetts University, he moved to California to further his education at Moss Landing Marine Laboratories. In 1991 the City and County of San Francisco, where he continues to work today, hired Brian as a biologist. He currently lives in the East Bay community of Bethel Island. Brian has been taking pictures since his parents gave him his first Canon SLR in the late 1970's, but didn't get serious about photography until he began writing for sport-fishing magazines in 1996. "When I began writing it quickly became apparent that the visual impact of a story is just as important as the words themselves." Brian's initial interests continue to keep him busy taking pictures of anglers and fish, but he has broadened his endeavors to include landscape, nature, wildlife and travel photography. He attributes his expanding portfolio to the countless stories that the outdoors affords. As Brian's photography interests expanded he ventured into producing and selling prints, including individual works and series. Brian also shoots stock photography, all available on briansak.com. Regardless of what he has his camera pointed at, Brian's goal is to produce images that tell a tale with every click of the shutter. All of Brian's photographs are made with Canon cameras and lenses.
