Nicolina Holt, the mother of two, earned a B.F.A. in Studio Art with a concentration in photography and graphic design from Michigan State University. While in school, she worked for the student newspaper, The State News. This is where Nicolina developed her skills as a photographer. She also spent her summers working at a portrait studio, first as an assistant and later as a photographer. After graduation, she worked as a graphic designer, but – realizing how much she missed shooting pictures – Nicolina took a job as a photojournalist in St. Joseph, Mich. After 3 years at The Herald-Palladium, she decided to go back to school and obtain her teacher certification. She taught elementary school art and taught black and white photography at the local community college, Lake Michigan College, for more than 9 years.
