I discovered my initial love for photography hidden in the graceful lines of an elderly woman’s face who turned from my lens with obvious insecurity of her perceived aged. But with great passion, I wanted her to see the beauty reflected to me. She, as well as her story was an etched work of art.
Becoming a visual artist wasn’t a profession I chose, it’s who I am. With a measure of skill and a dash of luck, I am privileged to travel, capturing souls of the less fortunate as well as the rich and famous. “High” is the BOOM shots, and fulfillment is watching a client tear while viewing their life, I captured with my lens.
There have been some great influences in my career (especially when I was just a chick with a camera aimlessly shooting the world the way I saw it). God who gave me the gift, my family who sustains my crazy artistic schedule. My bestest friends who believe in me, my clients who challenge and inspire me. YOU are my backbone. ThankQ seems trite!
The greatest change in my career came through my work with the great Heisman Trophy winner, Bo Jackson – called to visually document his story with disadvantaged children. The subsequent publication of that project opened doors beyond my imagination. It lead me onto motion picture sets in Hollywood, celebrities portraits, and commercial work. Bo, ThankQ!
June Bug featured an article on what photography means to me; Photography metaphorically speaking is like life, It’s a Phenomena impossible without light, every shade of light from the Divine to complete darkness. Metaphorically the lives I capture on film tell each person’s story, from their brightest joys to their darkest moments and there in lies “the” beauty.
Journalizing their story on film, using my camera as an excuse to be there, becoming part of their lives and in return giving the story of their life back to them. No matter who you are or your level of self esteem, you will love the way I see you and the story of your life I will give back to you. And until we meet, this is how you might describe me: My family is my pulse, I’m usually barefoot, with oversized sweaters covering my hands, (they make these amazing thumb shirts, look ‘em up online). I love fingerless bag lady gloves, eye glasses were made for head bands right? The smell of coffee brewing in the morning makes me smile, staring out at the vast ocean is one of my favorite places to be, and if you see someone glowing, it’s probably me shooting. Did I mention barefoot?
