Hi. My name is Tom and Newforge Studios is my brainchild. What started out as a love of the arts quickly morphed into a hobby and then an obsession. This love of the arts started in grade school and took shape through arts programs that I was usually willing to join all the way through high school.
Shortly out of High School, I enrolled at the Art Institute in Philadelphia. Due to the high cost of education, I was unable to complete a degree and was forced to put my dream on hold while I struggled to make ends meet. Shortly after the events of September 11th, 2001 I joined the U.S. Navy. During my service I completed various qualifications in leadership, navigation, counter-piracy, and counter-terrorism. I served as a Tactical Breacher on a six man team which conducted over 45 successful missions in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom and the Global War on Terror. I also assisted in training Iraqi Marines and other various nation’s Navies in small unit tactics, CQB, and Naval Warfare. During this time I lived and/or was deployed to locations all over the world with a focus on Central America and the Middle East. I witnessed extreme poverty, extreme opulence, and everything in between. It was during this time that I fully understood the power of perspective. There were stories that could be told through a thousand pages or one picture. There were stories I witnessed that needed to be told and needed to be seen.
Although I was decorated and successful in the U.S. Navy, I realized my dreams were down another road. The only way to get there was to trade my guns for a camera and my grenades for a pen. So, with an honorable discharge I used the Montgomery GI bill to go to college and obtain a degree. I managed to complete a BA in Business Management with a focus in Marketing from Goldey-Beacom Business School in under three years. It didn’t take me too long after that to realize that I wanted to be my own boss. I am fortunate enough to have an equally driven and supportive wife who always pushes me to chase my dreams. So it should be interesting to see just what Newforge ultimately morphs into.
I have trained with and shot alongside some very big names in the fine art photography scene. Most of them I am fortunate enough to call friends. We regularly try to get out and shoot conceptual images. The experience it provides is invaluable.
I am constantly training in Digital Photography and various editing programs. Always a student right? I am currently a freelance photographer and Public Relations consultant who has worked in all disciplines including action sports, still life, portraits, and events. I am willing to travel and have done everything from photographing a wedding at the Vatican in Rome, Italy to writing press releases for video game designers. No job is too big or too small. Let Newforge Studios capture your next slice of life.
I typically charge $150 an hour for my services. I am capable of working within most budgets.
