Thanks for giving us a moment to introduce ourselves! We’re Stephen and Melissa, aka “The Carters.” After spending the past four years on a highflying adventure as diplomats, we have relocated back to our native Arkansas – and this time with a new addition in tow – our sweet, sometimes sleeping, always smiling, source of all photo inspiration, Elsa.
Stephen has been photographing families, weddings, presidents, canyons, and couples for close to 12 years. He learned the ole’ fashioned way – with film in a darkroom. The real “pro” of the two of us (or at least that’s what I let him think), he earned his M.A. in Digital Photography from the Savannah College of Art and Design in 2009.
Melissa (that’s me!) began her career photographing those she loves most – any and all friends and family willing to pose. I really hit my stride when I met Stephen and fell in love over hours upon hours of “learning about Photoshop.”
Since the Sound of Music is my all time favorite movie, I feel the need to share with you a few of my (our) favorite things:
Coffee! (this one only applies to Stephen)
Costa Rica! (lived there for two years)
Food (any and all, mostly extra spicy)
Waking up only once at night to feed (the baby, not ourselves, although sometimes…)
Arkansas (home sweet home)
Unsolved monster mysteries (think Big Foot)
Traveling (so cliché, but we have managed to visit over 30 countries collectively, and can speak four languages between the two of us)
Artificially-flavored cheesy snacks (just me)
Bright, clean, classic photos
Natural interactions between you and your peeps
Getting in and getting out in under half an hour on the obligatory, staged family weddings photos (We know you need them – we’ve been there! But, believe you me, we’ve got this down to a science. Your relatives will thank you if you hire usAnd you’ll have a lot more fun too, trust me!)
Adding the “two” to your photo session or wedding. Two different photographers, two different perspectives. Every angle covered.
Making friends out of everyone we photograph.
So, may we buy you a cup of coffee and get to know YOU better? Don’t worry, I’ll order tea.
