My name is Jennifer Christie Helmka and I am very nostalgic.
I have so many great childhood memories. They are easy to remember because my Dad spent most of my childhood photographing me. I have a photo of me (taken by my Dad), with a camera in my hand - I think I was five. My Mom bought me my own first "real" camera for my eighth birthday; it was a Kodak 110. I have been hooked ever since. I have two children and where you see them, you will find me, camera in hand, ready to grab every - single - fascinating - moment possible.
I love the candid snapshots that we have. They remind me of what life was like growing up. I also like to look at those very posed family photos that I have...and the school photos. You just have to love all the different hairstyles and of course, the great outfits! All of those things combined to make our history, our family's history. Sort of like looking back on a dream. My style of photography reflects my nostalgic nature. I like to describe myself as a Lifestyle Portrait Photographer, one who combines those candid moments into a portrait. Like a snapshot of your family's history turned into a beautiful piece of artwork that you will be so proud to hang on your wall to show off to...everyone. I prefer to use natural light, but am not afraid of a little off-camera flash if necessary.
If you are looking for someone to just "take a few pictures and put them on a CD", that's not me. I think that anyone with a camera can do that. Nor am I the photographer who is going to cram you into a dark studio under hot lights and say, "hold still!" BUT, if you want light, airy natural shots with bursts of luscious color here and there - that's me. My style is pretty simple and natural as I just look to capture the beauty inside, that is so visible on the outside. Simple, Natural, Beautiful. If there are going to be props in a photo, I like to make sure that they are not THE photo; for me, props should be like the frosting on the cupcake, not the whole cupcake. They should be there to add just a touch of whim and creativity. Your portraits should provoke emotion: a smile, a laugh, a tear every time you look at them gracing your wall or flipping through the pages of your photo album; these are your memories. Let me help you turn your memories into beautiful pieces of art.
