My love for photography started when I was very young, and I was always blessed with a clear knowledge that it was what I would do for a profession. I graduated from Hallmark institute of photography in 2002 and have been photographing professionally ever since.
Ten + years in the industry and I’m constantly thriving and educating myself to improve my craft daily. I worked for a high volume senior portrait studio for about 11 years while photographing weddings and newborn's in RI. After I found out I was pregnant with my first child (2011 ), I knew it was time for a lifestyle change. My focus was moved from having fun and enjoying single life to supporting my family. I left a sure thing and a high ranking position at the high volume studio and focused on my daughter and my business. This was a gamble, however I knew seeing my little girl for a whopping 4 hours of awake time a day wasn't going to cut it. Something had to give!
In 2013 I was blessed with not only the birth of my second child a son, but I was also wed to the coolest guy I know. Now that my family is complete (having 2 so close together is a challenge!) I'm still thriving to find a balance between work, and time with my children. The best way to reach me is either text(401-497-9720) or email (firstname.lastname@example.org) , I return phone calls when I am at the office or during nap time. As Sally (my 2 year old) makes it hard for me to talk on the phone..."mom,ma,mommy,ma,ma sally wants and orange, mom,ma,mommy,ma,ma sally wants and orange....." It can be a bit distracting. It also reminds me of that episode of family guy where stewie suddenly crave's louis's attention. Anyway...
Even though I've made sacrifice's (like my cool car, late nights out with friends, far less travel) I know I made the right choice, to focus on them and on my business. If you happen to stop into the studio while I'm there doing the boring computer and paper work, you'll find that I'm there with 1 if not both of my children. Being able to spend this time with them while they are still so young is very important to me. This is a blog post I did with some images from my studio in case you'd like to see my work space click here
Many people get into this profession by starting to take images of their own children, I was in this profession for the love of it, years before I even thought I'd ever have children. In fact when I was shopping for that "cool car" that I no longer own, I had a tape measure with me to make sure my backdrops would fit. At the time the sales man said "Oh you can fit a pack and play in here! No problem!" I must have looked at the man like he had six heads because I hadn't the faintest Idea what a pack and play was. I now own 2.... However having a mothers perspective sure has changed the way I feel about photographing babies. The memories I get to create for families and the details I am able to preserve are priceless. I really have a cool job, I can't fathom what else I would ever do.
My work has been published in RI engaged as well as the Providence Journal, I've placed in national image competitions, both in the private market (LTNSS) and with PPA. I've photographed both president Bush and Obama (it was a pretty cool experience to be closer than the other media). I am also a member of PPA, Professional Photographers of America
