Daniel AzoulayDaniel Azoulay
was born in Casablanca Morocco, was raised in Israel and studied photography in Denmark. He started working as a fashion photographer in Copenhagen, Paris, Milan and London for major magazines and advertising agencies. In 1970, he moved to the United State as a young professional and worked in New York as a leader in fashion and commercial photography. In conjunction with his busy advertising and editorial campaigns, he traveled extensively to photograph and build his enormous body of personal work.
The act of taking pictures has a very intimate relation to ones inside vision of life and the encompassing world. The result of his extensive body of work is one of a huge flexibility ranging from social, landscape and contemporary.
De Azoulay is fascinated by the act of looking at the world through his lens. He has photographed almost anything that can be photographed with precision and obsession. De Azoulay is, above all, a non-exhaustible traveler, and his gaze monumentalizes and finds amazing details in the world we normally see with common eyes. In his work, revealing the capacity of detailing the apparently non-outstanding subjects that surround us, he constructs a meticulous web of images that speak about his personal interpretation of the world.
De Azoulay moved to Miami in the early 80’s and continued to work exhaustively in the fashion world. From 1997 onward he worked on his own portfolio until, in 2001
, and opened the Daniel Azoulay Gallery
In Miami’s Design District. The mission of the Daniel Azoulay Gallery is to promote contemporary art in all media from emerging and established artists both nationally and internationally. In 2009 he moved his gallery space to Midtown where he is located at present time.
Wile exhibiting his own artwork, he has also been an active member of the art community lecturing on Photography and sponsoring photography scholarships at universities portfolio revues for major art schools, also promoting contemporary and emerging artist, as well as recognized photographers in his gallery.
